Slovakia – Plans and Programs to serve young university students: meeting of IUS - Europe

30 May 2018

(ANS - Bratislava) - On 10 and 11 May, representatives of the Salesian Institutes of Higher Education (IUS) of Europe met in Bratislava, Slovakia: CES-Madrid, EUS-Barcelona, IUSTO-Turin, IUSVE- Venice, JABOK-Prague and Zylina-Slovakia were present. Also present were representatives of the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) and the General Coordinator of the IUS, Fr Marcelo Farfán.

The two-day meeting was, in essence, dedicted to evaluating and planning projects and programs. On the one hand, the joint programs developed during the previous year were examined: application of the guidelines on University Pastoral Care in the IUS; the executive training courses; staff training on Salesian identity.

New initiatives were also presented: definition of a research model aligned with the Salesian mission; definition of a training program for pastoral animators; further commitment to deepen the formation of personnel in Salesian charismatic identity.

The meeting also served to make each IUS known to each other as an encouragement to develop work as a network. More specifically, a visit to learn more about the IUS of Zylina, host of the meeting, was made possible.

During the meeting there were, furthermore, also discussions, talks and exchanges on good practices and experiences carried out by the various IUS with open spaces for dialogue, needed to make Salesian work known in the current university environment.
