(ANS – Cebu) - The Philippines South Province welcomed the election and subsequent appointments of a Salesian priest and a lay mission partner to separate national positions in curriculum studies and music. Fr. Rooney John Undar, SDB was elected as a Board Member of the Curriculum Studies Association of the Philippines (CSAPI) while Mr. Niño James Bañares was elected as Representative for the Visayas within the National Committee on Music under the National Commission on Culture and the Arts.

The author is Michal Vojtáš, Vice-Rector of the Pontifical Salesian University, professor of Salesian history and pedagogy at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, and director of the Don Bosco Study Center.

(ANS – New Rochelle) - Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, has launched an emergency appeal to provide disaster relief for those impacted by the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck in Kahramanmaraş province in southern Turkey, very close to Syria’s northwestern border, on Feb. 6. The earthquake was felt in 14 countries, including Lebanon, Israel, Cyprus and Jordan.

(ANS - Zagreb) - Wanting to be as faithful as possible to the example and directives inherited from Don Bosco, the great educator and protector of children and young people, the Salesians of the Province of Croatia (CRO) have actively entered into a process of knowledge and refinement to increase the protection and welfare of children and vulnerable persons. In this sense, the Provincial, together with his Council, has already for some years indicated several guidelines, which are being systematically implemented at different levels in all the works of the CRO Province, although somewhat slowed down due to the pandemic.

(ANS) - February 15 marks International Childhood Cancer Day, established by the World Health Organization and promoted by the Childhood Cancer International (CCI) network of associations. This anniversary follows World Cancer Day, commemorated on Feb. 4. On this latter occasion, Salesian institutions in Brazil publicized some of the initiatives carried out in the fight against cancer from campaigns to research that support and raise awareness about the importance of prevention, early detection and proper treatment of cancer.
