(ANS – Dingli) – The Rector Major’s official pastoral visit to Malta started with a great day at Savio College in Dingli on Sunday, 10 September. Fr Ángel’s first meeting was with the Maltese Salesian Family, consisting not only of the Salesians of Don Bosco, but also the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Salesian Cooperators, Past pupils, ADMA, VDBs and CDBs as well as many benefactors, parents and friends. Fr. Sandro Camilleri, delegate for the Salesian Family, gave the Rector Major a brief presentation of the richness of the Salesian Family in the Maltese Islands.
(ANS - Morogoro) - Sunday, September 10, after completing a series of meetings with various commissions and provincial teams in Morogoro, Tanzania, Fr Simon Asira, Provincial of the East Africa Province; his Vicar, Fr Augustine Sellam; Fr Eric Mairura, Provincial Economer – driving at the time - and the new Director of the Mafinga Seminary, Fr Peter Mugo, were traveling towards the city of Mafinga. Around 13:30, local time, a truck driver who was overtaking another vehicle appears to have fallen asleep, causing him to crash into the vehicle the 4 Salesians were traveling in.
(ANS - Bangalore) - Salesian Indian missionary Fr Thomas Uzhunnalil, seized more than 18 months ago in Yemen by a group of guerrillas, is released. According to the Indian media who announced the news, the Salesian religious is now in Muscat, Oman. Official confirmation came from a tweet by Sushma Swaraj, the Honourable Indian Foreign Minister.
(ANS - Gozo) - The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, is currently engaged in Malta for an Animation Visit to the local Salesian Family. Last Saturday, September 9, he paid a courtesy visit to Gozo, where a Don Bosco community was active until the late 1960s and where, thanks to the presence of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, the Salesian charism still persists.
