(ANS - Santa Cruz de Tenerife) - How many young people for whom Don Bosco means growth, salvation, a turning point in their lives have there been? From the time of Valdocco to the present day, millions, because the work begun by the Piedmontese saint is still carried on in his name today. Yassin and Jimmy are just two of the many examples that could be reported. A few days after the conclusion of the International Congress of Salesian Works and Social Services, which reaffirmed the centrality and offered new impetus to Salesian action for the integral human promotion of the neediest young people, we share their stories of redemption, achieved thanks to the efforts of Salesians, lay people and volunteers of the "Fundación Don Bosco" (FDB) of the "Spain-Mary Help of Christians" (SMX) Province.
(ANS – Lubumbashi) – The Oeuvres Maman Marguerite Center, located in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, received a shipment of rice-meals thanks to a partnership between Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco and Rise Against Hunger, an international relief organization that provides food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable.
(ANS - Perugia) - On October 2, 1922, the first Salesians arrived in Perugia and began their mission of educating and training young people, in the burgh of Porta Sant'Angelo. That is why just last Sunday, on the exact centenary of their arrival, the city's Archbishop, Msgr. Ivan Maffeis, presided over a solemn Eucharist in the church of St. Augustine, in Porta Sant'Angelo, during which he spoke words of profound esteem and great closeness toward the Sons of Don Bosco.
(ANS - Lisbon) - From September 29 to October 2, delegates for Youth from Spain's dioceses and Youth Ministry delegates and coordinators from the Congregations present in Spain gathered in Lisbon to discuss various aspects of World Youth Day 2023, which will have the Portuguese capital as its venue. Representing the Salesians, the meeting was also attended by the Delegate for Youth Ministry of the "Spain-St. James the Greater" Province, Fr. Xabier Camino. On the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 30, Fr. Camino addressed the assembly, presenting his report entitled, "European Youth Pilgrimage and World Youth Day: hopes and difficulties of the present moment."
(ANS - Buenos Aires) - Yesterday, Wednesday, Oct. 5, the Salesians in Argentina held a press conference on the canonization of Salesian Coadjutor Br. Artemide Zatti, Argentina's third saint, whose celebration will be presided over by Pope Francis in St. Peter's Square on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 10:15 a.m. (UTC+2). In the library of the Salesian house "Pius IX" in the Almagro neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Bishop Esteban Laxague, SDB, Bishop of Viedma, Salesian priests Fr. Carlos Bosio and Fr. Pedro Narambuena, and Salesian coadjutor Br. José Sobrero Bosch spoke to reporters before leaving for Rome to attend the celebration.
