(ANS - Ramapuram) – The Uzhunnalil family is one that shares a deep faith in the Lord. As is now well known, Fr Tom was kidnapped on 4 March in Aden, because he had chosen to stay close to the needy people in Yemen despite the war. The Salesian Congregation had already received a shining example of generous service from his uncle, Fr Mathew Uzhunnalil, who was the founder of the mission in Yemen. Now from Ramapuram, in India, the home place of the Uzhunnalil family, we have another testimony of faith, this time from Fr Tom’s brother who is also named Mathew. In spite of the difficult situation, he says: "I trust in the Lord. Nothing will happen without his consent."

(ANS - Rome) - A Salesian presence now fairly well established with the first works started in 1981, a hundred Salesians and 11 canonically erected houses: this is the situation the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, will meet on his visit to the Mary Immaculate Vice-Province of Madagascar from today 30 March to 4 April.

(ANS - Turin) - Two years of work, a network of contacts with companies, a wide range of samples from different professions, a test area between Turin and its suburbs and the province of Biella to explore concrete policies and actions for the transfer of skills between generations: this is in summary of the "OPEN" project (OPportunities between gENerations) promoted by CIOFS-FP, the Salesian Female Centre for Vocational Training in Piedmont.

(ANS - San José) - When Don Bosco asked John Cagliero to stay with him to found a religious congregation, we are told that Cagliero walked to and fro at Valdocco, in deep thought, not knowing what to say. Fr Lemoyne writes, "After much thought Cagliero came out with the saying: 'Monk or no monk, I'm staying with Don Bosco'". The Salesians are not just priests. There are Priest Salesians and Brother Salesians.

(ANS - Lahore) - "An abominable attack, which caused the massacre of so many innocent persons”, the Pope said yesterday, referring to the attack by a suicide bomber in Lahore, Pakistan, on the afternoon of Easter Sunday. According to the latest updates it caused 72 deaths and over 320 injured, including many Christians and many children who were celebrating outdoors the most important Christian feast.

(ANS - Rome) - According to the EU Statistical Office (Eurostat), at the end of 2014 there were 122.3 million people in Europe at risk of poverty or social exclusion, equal to 24.4% of the total population of the 28 EU member countries. According to Eurostat in 2020 "it is expected to reduce poverty to 20 million people." But what is the reality of poverty in Europe? What is the position of the Salesians with regard to the high rate of poverty among children, adolescents and young people present also in "rich" Europe?
