(ANS - Brussels) - With enormous and growing numbers of people fleeing Ukraine, Europe is facing the largest refugee movement since World War II. For this reason, several religious organizations from across Europe, representing all the Christian Churches present on the continent, as well as several institutions active on the issues of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, have signed a joint statement in which they support the application of the Temporary Protection Directive to Ukrainian refugees and suggest several proposals in the management of this emergency. Among the signatories is also Don Bosco International, the body that represents the Salesian Congregation to the institutions of the European Union.
(ANS - Warsaw) - The hard work of the Salesian Family around the world for the Ukraine emergency continues at full pace. The greatest burden of responsibility and practical work in the field at this stage falls on the presences in Poland, who are giving their best not only to welcome the refugees, but also to convey their closeness, affection, humanity to them. "They asked us what we needed as soon as we arrived; they offered us everything, they gave us everything, they helped us with everything.... We will never forget them," says Lydia, a Ukrainian refugee in Poland, about the welcome she received from so many Polish volunteers.

It is not the numbers that are important; what matters is the measure of love shown. It is not the force of circumstances that guides the Salesians, but the imagination of small gestures of welcome and attention.
