RESURRECTION OF CHRIST: PINARDI CHAPEL

The Pinardi Chapel. On the wall behind the altar there is a painting by Giovanni Paolo Crida (1886-1967) depicting the Resurrection of Christ, a reminder that it was on Easter Sunday 1846 that Don Bosco inaugurated the old Pinardi chapel.

Signor Pinardi brought Don Bosco into the shed by a rear door (now closed and covered by a large plaque). He said: "This will be your laboratory" and Don Bosco replied "But I want an oratory, a small chapel where I can bring my boys to pray." Meanwhile he looked around: it was just a poor roof, low, leaning against the north side of the Pinardi house. A wall all around transformed it into a sort of shed or big room, measuring 15m by 6m.  Don Bosco said: "It’s too low, it’s of no use to me." But Pinardi: "I'll lower the floor by half a metre, I will put in a wooden floor, put doors and windows. I would like to have a chapel here."

Don Bosco ran back to his boys and shouted: "Cheer up! We have found the oratory! We'll go there on Easter Sunday. It's there in Signor Pinardi's house!"
