SPECIAL REPORTS

(ANS - Turin) - A few weeks ago, the 28th General Chapter of the Salesians in Turin had to be concluded prematurely. Some Salesians were able to return to their countries. Others remained in various parts of Europe. Some remain in Turin and continue to wait for the day of their return. When? Only God knows. Nobody has wasted his time, because wherever the Provincials may be, they continue to encourage and govern their Provinces. Fr Angel Prado Mendoza has sent us a reflection. "Holy week or pandemic?"

(ANS - Rome) - Everything had been made ready for the great celebration of the golden Mass of Don Michele Rua on June 24, 1910, but the Lord called Don Rua to Him three months earlier, on April 6, at the age of 72. He had spent half of it beside Don Bosco and 22 as his successor. They had shared everything: bread, work, labors, anxieties, joys and sorrows, disappointments and hopes, until his death. Same passion for young people, zeal for souls, love for the sacramented Jesus, for the Help of Christians, for the sacraments, for the Pope, same readiness for hard work and sacrifice, same capacity for mortification, same arduous journeys, accompanied by graces and miracles. They shared the aspiration to holiness, achieved by both with the canonization of one (1934) and the beatification of the other (1972).

(ANS - Belém) - "More than starting professionally well-trained teenagers and young people into society, the ability to prepare them for a transforming commitment is required," say the directors of the Salesian School in Brazil. Among the Fundamental Commitments that the social dimension of the Salesian Brazil Network has assumed there is, in fact, the "Development of Life Skills (soft skills) among the new generations."

(ANS - São Paulo) - Don Bosco's vocational journey, as in all vocational paths, was not all easy, carefree or to be taken for granted. Doubts and difficulties were present in his maturation and decision-making process. Don Bosco also had doubts. He dreamed of becoming a Franciscan. He persistently wondered what his mission would be, where he should carry out his pastoral task. His life was marked by indecisions and uncertainty, but in the midst of his life he knew that there was a "medicine" that God sent him: it was Father Cafasso, his spiritual director.
