(ANS - Krakow) – Entering the final stages of preparations is the XXIX edition of the International Salesian Youth Games taking place from April 28 to May 3 in Krakow, Poland.

The International Salesian Youth Games are a decades-long sporting event that every year brings together athletes from the Salesian sports centers and institutions of many countries around the world, largely from the Old Continent, but also from beyond.

To date, 1530 athletes, belonging to 64 teams, representing 21 countries, have confirmed their participation for 2018. In addition to the European teams, there will also be representatives from Africa (Tanzania, Central African Republic, Zambia), Asia (Syria) and South America (Brazil).

The young athletes will compete in four disciplines: Football (soccer), Volleyball, Basketball and Table tennis. The competitions will take place in four different locations, respectively: the "Com-Com Zone" center in Nowa Huta; the AGH Academy Gym; the Gym of the Jagiellonian University; and the "Bronowianka" Sports Club Gym.

To prepare all the activities of this great youth event, on Thursday 22 March, at the Salesian Schools in Krakow, the first meeting of volunteers took place, chaired by Fr Franciszek Janyga, principal coordinator of volunteers, and by Fr Bogusław Zawada, principal organizer of the Games, who presented the event's characteristics, the program and several concrete proposals for the activities of the volunteers. A second meeting for volunteers is scheduled for April 19th.

Furthermore, on Saturday, March 24, the Organizing Committee of the Games met, a committee of ten, including Salesians and lay people, responsible for the whole program of the Games and the side events. On that occasion, Fr Zawada described the organizational possibilities and the state of the preparatory activities and indicated the commitments that required joint coordination.

Finally, it should be noted that in early May, Krakow will be completely swept over in a wave of Salesian youth spirituality, because this year the "Savionalia" - the Youth Festival of the Krakow Province (PLS), promoted to festively commemorate Saint Dominic Savio - will coincide in part with the International Salesian Youth Games, having been organized for 1-3 May.

Joining the athletes from all over the world are two thousand young people gathering under the slogan "Spiritual Revolution", which on the last day of the event will also be able to listen to the testimony of the Volunteer Missionary Volunteers "Młodzi Światu".
