(ANS - Rome) - "What paternity today for the Salesians' affective maturity?" was the challenging title of a course of formation promoted by the Conference of the Salesian Provinces of Italy (CISI) and addressed to the formators of the Salesian houses of the Provinces of Italy. The event, held in Rome, at the San Tarcisio Salesian Institute, from 1 to 3 July, brought together about 25 Salesians.

Every year the CISI Formation Sector organizes a seminar for Salesian formators in the first few days of July, dedicated to exploring specific themes. This year the choice was to deepen the theme of the "paternity" of the Salesians: starting from the experience of paternity lived in one's own family, then continuing with what was experienced in the stages of initial formation and finally looking at the educational paternity that each spiritual Son of Don Bosco, of today and tomorrow, is called upon to live with and for young people.

On the first day, led by Fr Giovanni Salonia, OFMcapp., Head of the Postgraduate Specialization School in Gestalt Psychotherapy, the participants examined the process of vocational discernment, starting from the Scriptures and with specific focuses on the affective maturity of the religious and of candidates and on pathologies incompatible with fraternal life.

To coordinate the work of the second day was instead a layman, Dr. Tonino Solarino, Psychotherapist and professor of Pastoral Counseling at the "San Tommaso" Theological Institute in Messina. In his reflections Dr. Solarino spoke of how to create a family atmosphere in discernment and in training accompaniment and how to proceed in paternal correction and conflict management in the formative phase.

Finally, on the third and final day, Fr Silvio Roggia of the Dicastery for Formation of the Salesian Congregation, assisted also by the Filipino Salesian Raymond Callo, Coordinator of Salesian Formation in the East Asia - Oceania region, illustrated the main aspects that emerged from the great international research of 2018 on "Young Salesians and accompaniment" (by Salesian Coadjutor Br Marco Bay); he also indicated several paths of work in response to the question: "What kind of fraternity is required by the young confreres?"
