(ANS – Roma) – Tomorrow, 20 June, is World Refugee Day, a day that reminds us of the plight of about seventy million people in the world. This number is growing, as war, natural disasters and discrimination force people to leave their country. The Mission Office in Madrid has released a statement outlining the work done by the Salesian Congregation on behalf of refugees.

Cambodia - The newest Delegation of the Congregation (ANS – Sihanoukville) – Just a week ago now, the Rector Major and his Council approved the newest circumscription in the Salesian Congregation – the Delegation of Cambodia, juridically dependent on St Paul’s Province, Thailand.

India - Consultations on Millennium Development Goals Post-2015 (ANS – Bangalore) – BREADS (Bangalore Rural Educational and Development Society), which had been chosen to lead and organize consultations in Karnataka on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) - Post 2015, organized a one-day consultation on “Children: Governance & Equity” on 17 June 2013, at SJP college Campus, Bangalore. The consultation was an effort to record people`s perspectives on their priorities.

Spain - Salesian Social Programmes and job training for young people (ANS – Madrid) – Yesterday, 17 June, at the Madrid Hilton Airport Hotel, Hilton Hopes 2013 diplomas were awarded to nine young people, aged between 18 and 32. Hilton Hopes is a project for work training devised by the Federation of Pinardi Social Programmes of the Salesians in Madrid, in cooperation with the hotel. These young people who come from Salesian Social Programmes, had spent four months acquiring skill to prepare them for the world of work.

Vatican - Salesian appointed Vicar Apostolic of Chaco Paraguayo (ANS – Vatican City) – Today, 18 June, the Press Office of the Holy See has announced that Pope Francis has appointed a Salesian, Fr Gabriel Narciso Escobar Ayala, as Vicar Apostolic of Chaco Paraguayo. He has also been appointed to the titular see of Media. The See of the Apostolic Vicariate of Chaco Paraguayo has been vacant for the past two years. Since its inauguration in 1948, it has always been administered by a Salesian.

Belgium - DBI at Seminar on European Citizenship (ANS – Brussels) – Next Thursday, 20 June, a Seminar will be held on “European Citizenship - Benefits and Challenges”. It is being organized at the request of the Political Office and the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Durão Barroso. The purpose of the seminar is to promote knowledge and relationships between the Community Institutions and Churches and Religious Communities. Among the participants will be Don Bosco International (DBI).
