3/6/2013- Belgium – DBI: Always Involved in the Overall Development of European Youth
(ANS – Brussels) – The Don Bosco International (DBI) will participate in a European Conference on 5 and 6 June entitled Advice on apprenticeship and traineeship schemes with ESF support. The DBI has been a member for some months now of the European Union Platform for Human Rights.
1/6/2013- RMG – The Salesian Family to join in worldwide Eucharistic Adoration
(ANS – Roma) – The Rector Major, Fr Pascual Chávez, invites the Salesian Family to join the Solemn Eucharistic Adoration which will be held at the same time everywhere in the world on Sunday 2 June. The initiative has been taken in the context of the Year of Faith, and is being undertaken by Episcopal conferences, parishes and religious congregations, which will join spiritually in the Eucharistic Adoration to be held in St Peter’s Basilica in Rome at 17.00 (GMT + 2).
1/6/2013- RMG – Condolences on the death of the mother of Fr Filiberto Gonzalez
(ANS – Roma) – The death occurred on Friday 31 May of Mrs Anita Maria Plasencia, mother of Fr Filiberto Gonzalez, Councillor for Social Communications. The funeral takes place today.
31/5/2013- Brazil – Education and Evangelization in comic format
(ANS – Brasilia) – The Network of Salesian Schools in Brazil (RSE) launched a website “Nossa Turma” (our class) at the end of April. This project will present the daily life in Salesian schools through the medium of comics. Visitors to the “Our Class” website will be able to see various publications, animated cartoons, to get to know the staff and to suggest topics for new stories. The website exists already on the social networks and on the portal of the RSE. It carries stories of Christian, Catholic and Salesian life in daily strips that introduce 30 people – students, educators, sisters and Salesians.

(ANS – Geneva) – Next Monday, 4 June, in the context of the 23rd Session of the Human Rights Council (27 May – 15 June) at the Palais des Nations, the Office for Human Rights of the International Institute of Mary Help of Christians (IIMA), VIDES International and the Uruguay Permanent Mission to the United Nations, will stage a parallel event entitled “Making young people responsible: what strategies?”
31/5/2013- Democratic Republic of Congo – The truce is holding but Goma must not be forgotten
(ANS – Goma) – Fr Piero Gavioli, Rector of the Don Bosco Centre at Goma-Ngangi, reports the latest news on the situation in Northern Kivu: fortunately the truce between army and rebels has been respected during these past few days. He urges us, however, not to switch off from the situation in the area and to continue to draw attention to it. We should be indignant at what is happening and we should make others aware of it.
30/5/2013- Solomon Islands – The Salesian Institute in Honiara will host an APTC campus
(ANS – Honiara) – The Don Bosco Technical Institute in Honiara has been chosen by the Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC), a programme of the Australian government, as the location for a new APTC campus. APTC was set up to provide for the Technical and Professional training for the young people of the Pacific sustained by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID).
30/5/2013- Poland – Church of Mary Help of Christians at Rumia elevated to become a Shrine
(ANS – Rumia) – On the occasion of the Feast of Mary Help of Christians, last Friday, 24 May, the Salesians in Poland celebrated the erection of the Church of Mary Help of Christians at Rumia as a Shrine. The Solemn Eucharist was presided over by Fr Marek Chrzan, Regional Councillor for Northern Europe, representing the Rector Major of the Salesian, Fr Pascual Chávez. “I am happy to be here and to pray with you, honouring the Help of Christians, in this new Shrine dedicated to her,” said Fr Chrzan.

(ANS – Montreal) – Maria Arpino Lee is a Canadian woman who went on voluntary service with her husband to Madagascar. The experiencee helped her to rediscover the authenticity of Christian life. Here is her testimony.
29/5/2013- Colombia – Preparation for American Continental Meeting of SYM
(ANS – Medellín) – A meeting was held from 13 to 18 May at the Salesian House “Ciudad Don Bosco” in Medellín to prepare for the first Continental Meeting of the Salesian Youth Movement, to be held in Niterói, Brazil, from 18 to 21 July next. The programme of activities was finalized for each day of the meeting and the general organization of participants was planned, based on the registration forms submitted by each country or province.
