17/5/2013 - Malmesbury, South Africa – May 2013 – From 10 to 12 May, eleven young people from St Anthony of Padua parish took part in a retreat led by Salesian Brother Clarence Watts. They were given talks on the gifts of the Holy Spirit and on different images of Jesus, and a guided meditation on aspects of the faith. They will be confirmed on 29 June.

17/5/2013 - San Antonio de los Altos, Venezuela – April 2013 – From 26 to 28 April, 81 young animators of the Salesian Youth Movement gathered at the “House of the Young” in San Antonio de los Altos, together with a group of young Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and Salesians in formation. A workshop and seminar for the formation of “Young People Accompanying Young People” was conducted by Fr Miguel Ángel García from the Department of Youth Ministry. They studied the youth situation and how to be “angels on earth”, not letting young people become part of the crowd in today’s world. The workshop consisted of six modules: introduction; biblical models of accompaniment; the person who accompanies; the stages of accompaniment; spiritual accompaniment of young people according to Don Bosco and the relevance today of the Educative System of Don Bosco for the accompaniment of adolescents.

16/5/2013 - San Francisco, United States – May 2013 – On 10 and 11 May, Fr Esteban Ortíz, Councillor for the Inter-American Region, concluded the Extraordinary Visit of the St Andrew Province of the Western United States. There were three meetings: one with the Directors to analyse the situation in the communities and reflect on their ministry of animation and government; one with more than 50 Salesians at which he presented the final report on the visitation; and one with the Provincial Council. This third one was attended also by newly appointed Provincial Councillors who will assume office next July. “In all its works the Province is offering a significant service to immigrants, especially in the Boys and Girls Clubs, daily oratories for the poor young people of the suburbs of Los Angeles and Richmond” said Fr Ortiz.

16/5/2013 - Toronto, Canada – 1May 2013 – On 1 May in the Church of St Benedict, about 800 students from St. Benedict Elementary School, St. Stephen Elementary School and Monsignor Percy Johnson High School welcomed the Cross of the Year of Faith. The Cross, which was made by the students, will go on pilgrimage for two years to the Catholic schools of Toronto. After a service of hymns and prayers, a group of the students gave witness to their faith by carrying the Cross for 2 km before handing it over to representatives of the students of the next school to be visited.

15/5/2013 - Deusto, Spain – 4 May 2013 – The Provincial Feast of the Salesians of Bilbao was held on 4 May. It was marked by two significant events: the perpetual profession of a young Salesian Germán Rivas, and the Honourable Mention for the Salesians of Duesto by the International Office for Catholic Education (OIEC). The granting of the honourable mention was communicated on 26 April last, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Salesians in Duesto, “in recognition of their inestimable contribution to the human, Christian and professional training of the young people and young workers of Bilbao and the Basque country.” Fr Isaac Diez, Rector of the Salesian at Duesto, received the award from Fr Ángel Astorgano, Secretary General of the OIEC and President of Don Bosco International.

15/5/2013 - Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Brazil – May 2013 – The second meeting of the Leaders of the schools of the Salesian Province of Recife took place on 3 and 4 May. About 100 students aged between 10 and 17 took part. The programme included guided tours, nature walks, talks and group work, as well as times of prayer and reflection. During the meeting the young people wrote their reflections in a diary or log book, published later on a blog on the provincial website. www.inspetoriasalesiana.org.br/nh

14/5/2013 - Lubumbashi, R.D. Congo – 5 May 2013 – On 5 May the Salesian Family of Lubumbashi gathered for a procession in honour of Mary Help of Christians. Fr Germain Kivungila, Vice-Provincial of the Province of Central Africa, led the procession. The statue of Mary was carried on a lorry decorated by the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians from Lubumbashi to the Marian city “Don Bosco”. The event concluded with Mass celebrated by Fr Jean Claude Ngoy, Provincial of AFC.

14/5/2013 - Massaranduba, Brazil – 5 May 2013 – The Annual Meeting of the Association of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA) of the Porto Alegre province was held on 5 May. 115 members of the Association took part. The Provincial of Porto Alegre, Fr Orestes Carlinhos Fistarol, presided at the Eucharist. Fr Tarcizio Paulo Odelli, Provincial Delegate of ADMA spoke on the subject “Mary, the Greatest Educator of all time.”

13/5/2013 - Tlazala, Mexico – May 2013 – On 4 and 5 May at the “Hombre Nuevo” Retreat House, about 350 young people took part in a camp organized by MAS (Movement of Salesian Acolytes). The Camp was organized by Fr Julián Daniel García Reynoso, Provincial Delegate for Youth Ministry, and his team. Activities included games and catechism, conducted by 60 young people from the Salesian Animators Project, together with Salesian priests, post-novices, cooperators and teachers.

13/5/2013 - Abidjan, Ivory Coast – 4 May 2013 –the Salesian House at Abidjan, the Provincial House of the French-speaking West African Province, is responsible for the Parish of St Francis of Assisi, as well as the Youth Centre and work for street boys. The photo shows a group of young people from the parish during catechism class in preparation for their First Communion. The Rector is Fr Denis Soro.
