France – Initiatives of Salesian Family during social isolation

06 April 2020

(ANS - Paris) - With over 93,000 people infected with the virus, France is fifth in the world in the unenviable ranking of countries most affected by COVID-19. However, the need to stop activities to slow down the spread of contagion has not stopped Salesian Family initiatives, which instead continue numerous under the banner of two keywords: solidarity and sharing.

The Salesians in Paris shared a video in which the young people of the Salesian network talked about the message of Pope Francis on "The storm has calmed down." In addition, they offer a theater course for children, held by Marielle Jovigne, via YouTube. The Salesian Youth Ministry office has set up a subsidy for "Living Easter in a different way." While Fr Jean-Marie Petitclerc, for this moment of health and social crisis, makes his writings available on the theme of the "Councils of the Virgin Mary."

The Salesian center in Marseille has put on its website a video presentation of its school, the courses of study and the diplomas it is preparing.

In collaboration with other organizations, various solidarity initiatives are being organized at the Don Bosco Institute in Gradignan: a first-aid course for families, repair and delivery of a refrigerator to a needy family, home delivery of products ...

The "Lemonnier Institute" of Caen in this period is dedicating itself instead to the creation of protective masks for health workers. A similar operation was carried out by the "Jeanne d'Arc-Don Bosco" high school in Thonon-les-Bains, which always collected gloves and medical devices for the medical staff.

From the "Saint Laurent Institute" of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in Écully, near Lyon, 30 students graduated as specialized educators and educational observers volunteered for the social reserve launched by the Prime Minister, on the model of the health reserve.

The Salesian educational collective "Vers le Haut" has prepared a platform entitled: "Coronavirus, the educational challenge" in which it offers concrete ideas for organizing today and preparing for the future.

The Salesian Cooperators of Southern Belgium offer their meditations on their website. While the boys and girls of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) of France and South Belgium, through their channels on Facebook and Instagram, offer thoughts for the Salesian "good morning" and "goodnight" - an initiative similar to that accomplished by the Salesians Xavier Ernst and Rodney Barlathier on their respective Facebook profiles.

Every day, the team of the "Valdocco Association" in Lille presents a mini-video on YouTube to keep followers intelligently occupied at home.

For spiritual life, the Salesian community of Tassin broadcasts Mass live on the parish website and on its Facebook page. The Salesian community of Argenteuil does the same - every evening at 19:00 and on Sunday at 10:00 (on the parish's Facebook page, YouTube and on the parish website). In addition to the Mass, the Salesian community of Paris in the parish also shares the recitation of Lauds and Vespers via the web.
