(ANS - Bogotà- On June 9, 2020, the first virtual laboratory on "Creative Storytelling Strategy" began, part of a formation cycle for the Digital Communication of the Salesians of America. The initiative is led by the "St Peter Claver" Province of Colombia-Bogota together with the "Our Lady of Copacabana" Province of Bolivia. Today more than ever, in such an ever-changing world, ongoing formation is an imperative: to keep up with the times and with the proposals of Pope Francis, who in fact dedicated the last World Day of Social Communications to the theme of narration. "So as not to lose our bearings," he says, "we need to make our own the truth contained in good stories."

In this first stage of this process or route, three workshops are planned, respectively on: Creative Storytelling Strategy; Screenplay of Radio Programs for Young People; and on the free OBS software for Online Broadcasting.

In the area of animation and formation, the Salesian Social Communication System (SSCS) aims to generate strategies so that educational and pastoral communities can improve their communication practices. This work has been developing through meetings in the presence of the Communication Delegates and local communication representatives in each Province, but given the current circumstances, it was not possible to continue with the same methodology.

The first laboratory was animated by the Provincial Delegation of Social Communication of Bogota, and was entrusted to Martha Perez, on the theme "Creative Storytelling Strategy". In fact, it was considered by all a very interesting topic, in line with current times. In his message for the 54th World Communications Day, Pope Francis underlines: "Human beings are storytellers. From childhood, we hunger for stories just as we hunger for food. Stories influence our lives, whether in the form of fairy tales, novels, films, songs, news, even if we do not always realize it."

Over 170 communicators of Salesian works from the Provinces of Northern Argentina (ARN), Southern Argentina (ARS), Bolivia (BOL), Ecuador (ECU), Colombia Bogota (COB), Central America (CAM), Paraguay (PAR), Peru (PER) and Venezuela (VEN) participated in this first workshop.

The event was highlighted by the participation of Fr Gildasio Dos Santos Mendes, SDB, recently elected General Councilor for Social Communications, who greeted all the participants and urged them to continue in these formation processes so important for the Salesian mission.
