The Catholic Church in China

Today, 9 July, the liturgical memory of Saints Augustine Zhao Rong, priest, and Companions, Chinese Martyrs is celebrated. On this occasion, let's take a look at the statistics of the Catholic Church in China.

Catholics are 0.46% of the population (Protestants 2.06%, Muslims 0.50% and Buddhists 8.96%);
The baptized are between 40,000 and 50,000 annually;
48 deacons ordained priests in 2019;
78 active bishops;
4,950 priests;
12 seminars and 470 seminarians;
4,360 nuns;
6,000 between churches and oratories.

In Hong Kong, there are 403,000 Catholics in the local population, in addition to 183,000 from the Philippines and 34,000 Catholic foreigners.
