Colombia – Fr Timothy Ploch concludes the Extraordinary Visitation

01 June 2016

(ANS - Medellin) - At the official closing of the Extraordinary Visitation, Fr Timothy Ploch, Councillor for the Inter-America Region, attended a Provincial Assembly on the afternoon of 26 May. In it he shared with the Salesians and the young people in formation the most important aspects of his visit, along with his experiences, conclusions and recommendations for the Province of St. Louis Bertrand of Medellin (COM).

In his presentation Fr Ploch said that his experience of almost 15 weeks travelling around the works of the Province was very enriching because it allowed him to meet not only the Salesians, but also other groups of the Salesian Family, and the bishops of some of the dioceses where the Salesians are present.

The overall report presented by Fr Ploch was very positive. He felt accepted and blessed: "I am very grateful to God for giving me the blessing of visiting the CPM Province and getting to know the situation here."  He then added: "This is a Province of hope".

In this regard he said he was positively impressed by the solidarity campaign on behalf of the earthquake victims in Ecuador, sponsored by the Provincial Fr John Jairo Gomez Rúa. He highlighted the activities and awareness developed for this purpose, in particular with students, as praiseworthy forms of aid to the needy.

While emphasizing certain aspects that could be improved, Fr Ploch said he was leaving with an impression that was definitely good, noting that the COM Province "is fraternal, hardworking, supportive, well-organized and structured, with all essential documents well drawn up and shared."

The assembly ended with the interventions of the Provincial and the Vice-Provincial Fr Jorge Iván Pérez. They thanked the Regional Councillor for Inter-America for his support and inspiring presence. Finally, the band of the post-novitiate performed two songs that brought the meeting to a close.
