Uganda - Celebration of World Day of Migrants and Refugees in Palabek

29 September 2020

Palabek, Uganda - September 2020 - The World Day of Migrants and Refugees was celebrated on 27 September at the Salesian mission in the Palabek refugee camp. About 73 young animators and collaborators of the Salesian house met to participate in the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr Ubaldino Andrade, SDB. It was the first Mass allowed by the Government of Uganda after 6 months, ie, since the beginning of the pandemic. At the end of the celebration, the participants were able to share their experiences, concerns, difficulties and hopes as refugees. Inspired by the theme announced by Pope Francis, "Like Jesus Christ, forced to flee", numerous refugees created a memo with which they remembered the many family members and friends who lost their lives during the war, expressing the hope of being able to day go home and live in peace. "We must do our part for the Kingdom of God to dwell among us, a Kingdom of love, justice and peace," they said.
