Brazil – Salesian Youth Observatory is born, "a new model of oratory for today's times"

12 October 2020

(ANS - Rio Grande do Sul) - On 27 September the Salesian Youth Observatory (OSJ, in Portuguese) was officially inaugurated in Rio Grande do Sul, linked to the Don Bosco Faculty (FDB) of Porto Alegre, and to the Salesian Province "Saint Pius X", which supports it.

The Salesian Youth Observatory will be a place of approach to young people and in turn of reference for the entire world of youth, aimed at fostering actions that promote the protagonism and the construction for each young person of their own life project, as well as the formation of qualified adults for accompaniment and research. From the Salesian point of view, it will be a new model of oratory for the present times, a place of sharing to cast an attentive look at the world of youth and accompaniment. It will be an educational space par excellence.

“The Salesian Province of San Pio X, an expression of the Salesians of Don Bosco in southern Brazil, is launching a new space for approaching young people and for the formation of people qualified to carry out academic research in the field of youth and to accompany young people: it is the Salesian Youth Observatory,” explained Fr Gilson Marcos da Silva, Provincial of the Brazil-Porto Alegre Province (BPA).

“Within this space, we will commit ourselves to spreading Don Bosco's Preventive System and other Salesian values in the research and production of scientific knowledge aimed at society in its development phase. With the Observatory, we are committed to collaborating in the positive transformation of society through research on the realities of young people,” added the Executive Director of the "Dom Bosco" Catholic Faculty, prof. Edson Avila.
