Portugal - “São Vicente” parish of Alcabideche entrusted to Salesians
Alcabideche, Portugal - September 2020 - The “São Vicente” parish of Alcabideche, in the diocese of Lisbon, has been entrusted to the Salesians. On 6 September Msgr. Joaquim Mendes, SDB, Auxiliary Bishop of Lisbon, presided over the inauguration ceremony of the two new Salesian parish priests "in solidum": Fr Juan Freitas and Fr Manuel Mendes. Fr Freitas, as moderator, will coordinate the common work of the parish and will legally represent it; Fr Mendes will continue his mission as parish priest and parish administrator, which he assumed at the end of 2019. In his homily, Msgr. Mendes mentioned communion, co-responsibility and a sense of belonging to the ecclesial community as the challenges of the mission of the new parish priests. "I am sure that the presence of the Salesian charism in the parish, through the Salesians, and the other members of the Salesian Family, Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Salesian Cooperators and Past Pupils shall help to cultivate the family spirit, to be a family and offer a family environment for children and young people." The Salesians have been present in the parish territory for 67 years and animate various activities.
