Chile – "Fundación Don Bosco" and "Emaresa": alliance to overcome street situation

09 November 2020

(ANS - Santiago) - On the afternoon of Friday 30 October, in the premises of the "Bartolomé Garelli" residence for adolescents, the representatives of the "Fundación Don Bosco", the company "Emaresa", and the project "Juntos en la Calle" (Together in the street) signed an agreement that represents the project's first formal alliance, as well as the fourth stage of the process of accompanying children and adolescents in street situations.

The signing ceremony was attended by the president of the "Fundación Don Bosco", namely Fr Victor Mora, the HR Director of "Emaresa", Aldo del Río, and the director of the "Juntos en la Calle" project, María de los Ángeles Ibáñez.

This new collaboration between the Salesian organization and the private company intends to support the continuity of the functioning of one of the residences of the "Fundación Don Bosco" and to provide support to the young people who live there in the field of work and social inclusion.

During the ceremony, Fr Mora thanked “Emaresa” for their trust in the work done in favor of the most vulnerable young people. Then he spoke directly to the teenagers, that they take advantage of this opportunity to project themselves and their lives forward and upward. He also added that this is a great step forward in the search to make the integral work of integrating young people into society sustainable.

On behalf of "Emaresa", Dr. del Rio underlined: “For us, the relationship with the foundation and all the common work that can arise from this relationship is super important. We're very happy and enthusiastic to contribute to the job placement process of the young people living in the residence, enhance the talents of these boys and girls in these spaces.”

Regarding the partnership agreement, which will seek to empower young people in several key areas, to increase professional skills and their integration into the world of work, Maria de los Angeles Ibañez said: “This is the first of a series of alliances that we hope to formalize in different territories because we believe that the complexity of the street situation requires joint responses in which the business sector also has a lot to say.”

In the coming weeks, they shall work on a plan that contains several points: the achievement of the sustainability of the support model offered by the Salesian foundation; the creation of a link between street children and adolescents and company collaborators via recreational activities; and improvements to the infrastructure of the “Fundación Don Bosco” house.

"Juntos en la Calle" is a project born from the 13th "Efforts for the Country" roundtable, led by the Community of Solidarity Organizations (COS), by the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC), and supported by the Ministry of Social Development and the Family. Its goal, according to Dr Ibañez, is to contribute to overcoming the street situation through “a network that involves the business sector in conversation with the public sector, to strengthen the work of civil society organizations operating on the theme.”
