China - 1920 - The photo shows Mons. Luigi Versiglia (1873-1930), Salesian bishop, martyr, declared a saint in 2000, intent on cutting the hair of a young Fr Carlo Braga (1885-1971), a Salesian missionary in China and in Philippines, Servant of God, whose 50th anniversary falls this year. This very familiar trait is a sign of the great charity that pushed Archbishop Versiglia to make himself available to his missionaries. Fr Carlo Braga himself testified: “He had truly maternal attentions for his missionaries. He visited them when they were sick, serving them personally, as I myself experienced in one of my illnesses.”
