Portugal – Award for "SolSal Évora" project in favor of single mothers

03 February 2021

(ANS - Évora) - The "Mães Brilhantes - Empowerment de Familias Monoparentais Femininas" project (Brilliant mothers – Empowerment of single-parent female families) of the SolSal Service "(Salesian Solidarity) of Évora, promoted by the" Fundação Salesianos ", is one of the five Portuguese projects awarded with the “Social Value Award” of the “Fundación Cepsa”.

The project, which as a result of this award will receive € 10,415 for its further development by the "Fundación Cepsa", aims to accompany single mothers in situations of vulnerability, to offer them effective support to the various challenges that these mothers and their families face. In this sense, the program is based on the development of skills at various levels: parenting, personal, social, professional.

The day-to-day demands of these women who raise their children without the support of their husbands or partners and, for the most part, without any support from the extended family - a situation that is often coupled with low income and low academic qualifications - have a great impact on their family, relationships and the self-esteem of the women themselves.

Faced with these problematic circumstances, which obviously risk leading to the growth of problematic minors, the initiative of the Salesians of Évora envisages an integrated approach, which embraces various initiatives: school and educational support for minors; support in accessing services and guaranteeing individual and family rights; adoption of personal care and attention habits; drafting of a Curriculum Vitae; search and reply to job offers….

The "Social Value Award" was created in 2005 by the "Fundación Cepsa" with the aim of recognizing and promoting the social activity of different entities that work to improve the quality of life of very different groups. Over the past 15 years, these awards have already enabled the development of more than 340 projects, which have improved the quality of life of around 40,000 people.

This year, in addition to the program of the Salesians of Évora, the Fundación Cepsa awarded four other projects in Portugal: "Brigada Sénior", promoted by the National Association for Development, Research and Community Support (ANADIC); "Uma Casa, Muitas Famílias" (One House, Many Families), of the Association "Aprender em Parceria" (Learning in Collaboration); "Semear Emprega" (Sowing Employment), of the Inclusion for Disability Association (BIPP), and "Academia da Mudança" (Academy of Change), promoted by the "Serve the City - Portugal" Association. In total, more than 56,000 euros are allocated to the five winning institutions.
