Dominican Republic – A Fair to exhibit Products and Experiences

24 June 2016

(ANS – Santo Domingo) – The local centre “Canillitas con Don Bosco”, of the “Muchachos y Muchachas con Don Bosco” (Children with Don Bosco) network celebrated the Seventh Edition of the Fair of Products, an event that serves to motivate the youth to participate in the various programmes of vocational formation and to stimulate visitors in general and entrepreneurs in particular to collaborate in the process of learning and to improve the degree of “employability” of the youth.

The “Muchachos y Muchachas con Don Bosco” network serves 3000 children and young people between 6 and 17 years of age, and numbers hundreds of volunteers; since over 30 years it works to change the life of children at risk, thanks to the support and the collaboration of many people all over the world.

In this context is placed the demonstrative fair of products, an activity in which the beneficiaries of the centre exhibit the different products created in the workshops of technical-vocational formation: for kitchen operators, barmen, waiters, computer technicians, cleaners, masseurs. Pre-vocational workshops must also be added to this, with the aim of discovering, through the learning of manual skills, the capabilities of the young during the process of vocational orientation, so as to integrate them in more specific courses of technical formation on the basis of their interests and capabilities.

To this event of the fair, is also to be added the support of initiatives aiming at uprooting and preventing child labour, keeping in mind that the International Organization of Labour has declared the 12th of June of each year as the “International Day against Child labour”.

Vocational formation is a key element in the educational process, and permits to definitely remove from the streets many youth and to favour their fruitful integration in the world of labour, as a guarantee of their rights.

“Canillitas con Don Bosco” is an educational and pastoral institution, ensuring social promotion, for children, adolescents and youth at risk and for their families.
