Ecuador - Provincial Feast in Mary Help of Christians church in La Tola

18 June 2021

Quito, Ecuador - June 2021 - On 12 June the communities of the Salesian Province of Ecuador (ECU) and the National Salesian Family experienced the Provincial Feast Day 2021 in the church of Mary Help of Christians in La Tola - a place that has special significance because it was the first temple built by the Salesians in the country - in 1900. The precursor of this work was the Salesian Brother Giacinto Pancheri, who worked to foster devotion to Mary Help of Christians throughout the nation. According to the chronicles of the time, the small replica of the Valdocco Sanctuary in Turin was financed entirely by the work and funds of the Salesian Cooperators and by the alms of the devotees of the Virgin. During last Saturday's feast, one of the most important moments of the celebration was the thanks of the Salesian Family to the Provincial of Ecuador, Fr Francisco Sánchez, whose animating presence, even in times of pandemic, is a fundamental reference for the communities. Despite these difficult times, the Salesian mission continues to work through many initiatives for the well-being of young people and poor families.
