East Timor - Learning from each other: Federation of East Timor Past Pupils

(ANS - Dili) - Each event in the East Asia-Oceania Region proves to be a precious charismatic experience, a source of inspiration and wisdom. The recent XII Congress of Don Bosco's Past Pupils of Asia and Oceania, held on June 25 and 26, was no exception.

Throughout the East Asia-Oceania Region, the Federation of Past Pupils of East Timor is undoubtedly among the most dynamic, with clear objectives and a strong Salesian charismatic identity, which is expressed in its planning, evaluation, activities and many exceptional events and efforts. Through two videos, shared during the recent Congress, this reality was presented, listing the strengths of the East Timorese Past Pupils.

  1. Clear Strategic Objective: to consolidate the network of the Salesian Family, especially the Past Pupils of Don Bosco;
  2. Follow the 7 objectives of the World Confederation, integrating them with 14 programs of the National Federation;
  3. Implement the GEX promotion in close synergy with the Salesian Youth Movement and the Oratories;
  4. Deep relationship and involvement within the Salesian Family;
  5. Best practices:
    a. the results achieved:Construction of the church of Saint Callisto Caravario, with the blessing scheduled for October 2021;
    b. Foundation of three new associations (Baguia, Manufahe-Same and Aileu);
    c. Investment in online communication platforms (social media, website);
    d. Federation ID card, with $ 0.50/month investment;
    e. Regular fundraising events to support vulnerable people;
    f. Organization of sporting and cultural events for young people;
    g. Charitable activities: public cleaning, tree planting, housing for flood victims, etc.

The story of the Past Pupils of East Timor is one of truly remarkable growth. Undoubtedly, they are also motivated by the presence of many Salesian missionaries, who have followed one another in the country since the time of St Callisto Caravario. Furthermore, the whole Salesian community of East Timor is preparing for an important anniversary. In fact, in 2027 the Centenary of the Salesian presence in the country will be celebrated.
