Palabek, Uganda - August 2021 - Thanks to the friends of the Salesian works, more than 250 young refugees from South Sudan living in northern Uganda have been able to grow fruits and vegetables, which they can now integrate with the rations offered by the World Food Program (consisting of 6 kg of corn, 1.5 kg of beans, two cups of oil and a tablespoon of salt per month). The “Don Bosco Vocational Center” of Palabek takes care of a population of 57,000 refugees, people fleeing the wars and poverty of South Sudan, the world's youngest country. Many arrive at the camp through footpaths, mountains, taking with them what little they can bring, in search of a safe place to start all over again, after having experienced the most severe of atrocities. In the Palabek refugee camp, with the help of the Salesians and their supporters, they can now make use of their hands and with everyone's efforts they can begin to harvest tomatoes, peppers, onions, cassava, carrots, courgettes, pineapples, bananas, watermelons, and many other products of the "Crops of Hope".
