Brazil - Fr Gabriel Romero visits a new missionary horizon

12 November 2021

Palmas, Brazil - November 2021 - Fr Gabriel Romero, Councilor for the America South Cone Region, visited the Salesian House in the city of Palmas, which consists of a Youth Center, a festive oratory, and the parish with a significant commitment to the poorest and most needy. The city of Palmas was founded 33 years ago to help people living within the state of Tocantins, a new state in the heart of Brazil. The Salesians arrived in Palmas only 14 years ago, settling in the city’s southern outskirts, in the region of Taquaralto, where the situation of poverty, lack of work, and social risk is clearly tangible. The Salesian Youth Center today accompanies children, adolescents, and young people in situations of social and educational vulnerability. Several projects are carried out by the Salesians together with a group of educators committed to the charism, including an agro-ecological education project.
