Democratic Republic of Congo – Concluding Eucharist of Fr Stefano Martoglio’s visit to the Central African Province (AFC)

22 November 2021

(ANS - Lubumbashi) - On Friday 19 November 2021, at the "Regina Mundi" Chapel in Lubumbashi, Fr Stefano Martoglio, Vicar of the Rector Major, presided at the Eucharistic celebration at the end of his Visit to the “Assumption of Mary” province of Central Africa (AFC), a visit that began in Goma on November 9th.

Three strong moments characterized the celebration. Firstly, the message that Fr Martoglio delivered in his homily in Italian, translated into French in which he insisted on God's fidelity and highlighted him as a keeper of his promises. He also recalled the faith of Saint Joseph, who put God's plan for him before his own with Mary, and for this, he was defined as a "just man".

Secondly, after the homily, the Vicar of the Rector Major presented statues of St. Joseph to the Rectors of all the Salesian communities of the AFC Province. Thirdly, Fr Guillermo Basañes, the AFC Provincial, offered a concluding thought, urging the Rectors to imitate the virtues of Saint Joseph to whom this pastoral year was dedicated and to whom he himself entrusted his mandate as the Provincial last March. "May these statues not be mere decorations in your houses, but that St. Joseph be truly the model and protector of your communities," said the Provincial.

The thanksgiving Mass was attended by several Salesians from all the communities of the Province and many members of the Salesian Family: Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Salesian Cooperators, Past Pupils of Don Bosco and Volunteers of Don Bosco.
