The Fitterling Fund is a collection of over 500 ceramics (including intact pieces and fragments) belonging to the native peoples of northwestern Argentina, an ensemble that reflects different cultures, techniques, beliefs, developed within the Argentine Northeast: Ciénaga, Aguada, Aguada Portezuelo, Yocavil, Belén Vaquería, and Inca. Therefore, it includes pieces built in pre-Hispanic times, between 400 AD. and 1480, approx.

The collection belonged to a private individual who collected the pieces during the 1960s and 70s. After his death - and according to the new patrimonial criteria established by Law XI Nº 11 (before the 3559) of the Province of Chubut -, his children decided to give it to the Salesian Regional Museum as holder. In this way, the Museum assumes the social commitment of conserving this heritage, as well as the responsibility of promoting the knowledge and dissemination of this fund to the community of Rawson and its surroundings.

The museum was created in 1941 inside the "Don Bosco" school in Rawson, as a school museum. A group of 6th-year students, together with their teacher José Morell, were tasked with collecting artifacts within the community and on educational trips.

Today, the museum offers visitors over 6,000 exhibits that speak of regional history and the actions developed by the Salesians in the area: installation of the first printing press, the first hospital, school for boys and girls, and other historical projects.

The Salesian Regional Museum is committed to supporting young people, education and culture, and continues to work and grow every day to provide the local community and tourists with a part of the history that is preserved there.
