Spain – Country's innovation counts on Salesian Vocational Training Centers

14 January 2022

(ANS - Madrid) - Salesian centers that provide students with Vocational Training have once again demonstrated all their strength and vitality. This is demonstrated by the latest convocation of the Spanish Ministry of Education, which lists a dozen of these centers among those chosen to develop national innovation projects in the field of Vocational Training, projects to be carried out in collaboration with other centers and agents of the business world. In total, the ministerial convocation lists 141 initiatives, and Salesian Vocational Training representatives are involved in more than ten of them.

For example, the Salesian Vocational Training Center (VTC) "Lora Tamayo" in Jerez de la Frontera and the VTC "Juan Solé" in Cartagena shall collaborate in the joint project "Advancing in Dual Vocational Training and Industry 4.0". Another project in which the Jerez center is participating is entitled "From the traditional workshop to the sustainable workshop".

The "San José" center in Salamanca, on the other hand, will participate in the project entitled "Technical and Methodological Development for Industrial Practice 4.0 and IOT", which will enjoy a grant of 163,000 euros. Students will have to design an electronic board with which other VET students can practice their knowledge of robotics or home automation at home. "The objective is to make it accessible to the general public, containing it at a cost of about 20 euro. And it will not only be necessary to design the hardware, but also the application that can allow its use in professional environments and the website where the design of the board will be made public, so that it can be used freely," they explain from the Salesian VTC.

Other notable projects include "Intralogística 4.0", in which the Salesian centers of Pamplona, Atocha, Zaragoza, and Cordoba are collaborating; the "Intelligent Manufacturing with Robotics" project in which the Salesian school "St Domenico Savio" of Madrid is participating; "Drones in Classrooms 4.0" of the school "San Ignacio" of Cadiz, or the project in which the Madrid center of Carabanchel is participating on "The development of hydrogen storage units".

Most of these initiatives stand out for their innovation in terms of Industry 4.0, Internet of Things, collaborative robotics, smart manufacturing, digitization, and 3D printing, drone management, and artificial intelligence.

In total, all 141 of the selected initiatives will have a budget of 23.8 million euro, from Chapter 20 of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and will involve more than 600 entities including VTCs, companies, and other organizations related to vocational training across the country.

The projects require the participation of at least two VTCs located in different autonomous communities, and one to three companies, foundations, associations or entities, public or private, so that a maximum of five participants can be involved in each project.
