Present at the gala were various dignitaries, MCJ sisters, teachers, parents and students. Shri Evanmi Lyngdoh, the Additional Assistant Commissioner of West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin was the chief guest. Also present as guest of honour was Fr. Paul Koottala SDB who blessed both the courts in the presence of august gathering.
The momentous and jubilant occasion started with a warm welcome address by Br. Reynold Kurbah SDB followed by the hoisting of Centenary flag by the chief guest. The students of Christ King Higher Secondary School Riangdo led by Abigail Lyngkhoi sang the centenary song proceeded by cutting of ribbon by the chief guest.
Christ King Higher Secondary School and Don Bosco Lakeshore School did a dance number each to an upbeat music much to the delight of the chief guests and the sprightly students grouped around the dazzlingly new and resonant basketball courts.
Shri Evanmi Lyngdoh, the Additional Assistant Commissioner of West Khasi Hills, gave a celebratory speech making the occasion with touching anecdotes. He said that games and sports are very important for a healthy living. At present, games and sports prevent young people from evil practices in the society and enables them to maintain discipline in their lives, he said. Therefore, the availability of playground for games is of paramount importance.
The inauguration of the basketball courts concluded with a decidedly energetic and friendly match between the staff and the students. All in all, it was a celebration worth the blue skies and the dazzling sun that blessed every person present at the memorable milestone.
