Madagascar – Workshop of information and sharing for Radio Don Bosco Madagascar’s new project

01 April 2022

(ANS - Ivato) - Last Monday, March 28, 2022, at the House of the "Mary Immaculate" Vice-Province of Madagascar, in Ivato, the Directors of Catholic radio stations in Madagascar and the heads of Salesian Vocational Training Centers (VTC) met. The meeting’s purpose was to participate in the workshop on information and sharing regarding a new project of "Radio Don Bosco Madagascar".

Currently, Radio Don Bosco Madagascar is working on the preparation and launch of the project: "Improvement of the quality of Radio Don Bosco and expansion of the offer through distance learning and media education".

"We will have several things to do together," the Salesians of Radio Don Bosco Madagascar commented to the other guests gathered.

The Salesians, who have been present in Madagascar since 1981, are mainly active in two areas of action: vocational training and broadcasting. The common points of connection and complementarity between these two areas have not yet been identified, but it is precisely here that the new project aims to intervene.

In the context of a strategic reorientation, the vast experience that Salesians have acquired in these two areas in recent years could be used to initiate new educational solutions. For example, by promoting, also via radio, the social and professional insertion of young people at risk, who have insufficient access to education and who have seen their educational and social condition deteriorate further because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thus, work is being done on a strategic and programmatic reorientation of Radio Don Bosco Madagascar and RDB Live to address and overcome the challenges of young people in Madagascar. The content of the programs, in this sense, will have to take greater account of the project’s educational aspect.

Since its inception, Radio Don Bosco Madagascar has repeatedly demonstrated its adaptability and responded to internal changes or external needs with strategic reorientations that have allowed it to remain current. Now, as part of this project, the knowledge and skills of the radio staff need to be updated to communicate effectively according to the guidelines of the new program and, finally, the educational offerings and radio programs also need to be continuously improved.

Finally, there are also plans to offer additional training measures to promote the use of information and communication technologies in educational institutions.
