26 April 2022

Hong Kong - April 2022 - From 18th to 23rd April the Salesian Province "Mary Help of Christians" based in Hong Kong (CIN) celebrated its Provincial Chapter. The 27 Capitulars participated online from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan; some guests were also present: a financial expert, four mission collaborators, and Salesians in initial formation. During the opening Mass, Fr Joseph Ng, Provincial of the CIN Province, emphasized: "In this Provincial Chapter we are called to return to the basics and the spirit of our religious life. Let us renew ourselves in our commitment to follow the poor Jesus, serve our dear young people, and work with our co-workers in mission." Three themes were on the agenda: 1. Review of the Province according to the orientations of GC 28; 2. Salesian Pastoral Educational Project; 3. Review of Chapter 4 of the Provincial Directory on Life in Poverty and Economic Management. The theme of GC28, "Which Salesians for Today's Youth?", is an open question addressed to the identity and formation of Salesians. The Chapter discussion touched on strengthening the spirit of evangelization, promoting Salesian vocation and formation, option and presence among young people, especially the poor and vulnerable, collaborators in mission, and ecological conversion. As for bearing witness to poor life and good management of resources, Salesians are called to live in a spirit of responsibility and transparency.
