Philippines – General Councilor for Missions' suggestions to FIN Youth Ministry

(ANS - Makati City) – Fr. Alfred Maravilla, SDB, the General Councilor for Missions, met with the Commission on Youth Ministry (CYM) of the FIN Province on 23 May, during his Extraordinary Visitation to FIN Province. In attendance were the heads of the pastoral sectors and ministries under the CYM.

One purpose of the meeting was the sharing of Fr. Maravilla’s inputs following his visit to the different Salesian settings. 

He proudly acknowledged the great contribution of Don Bosco TVET to the technical education program enabling many young people to get needed technical skills that help them to find gainful employment.  

Fr. Maravilla stressed the importance and necessity of the initial proclamation in catechesis.  Without focusing on the initial proclamation, Salesians end up like social services providers, missing the real beauty and essence of being evangelizers.

Some members of the team reported the efforts being done to address this concern.  Fr. Joebeth Vivo SDB gave a brief report on the TVET Christian Living reference book project.  He also mentioned the minimum non-negotiables of TVET Christian Living like prayer life, Mass, Confession, and Retreats.
