Argentina – Historical materials on future saint Artemide Zatti, SDB available online

31 May 2022

(ANS - Bahía Blanca) - The Salesian Historical Archive of the "Blessed Zeffirino Namuncurá" Province of Southern Argentina has decided to make a series of material on the blessed and soon-to-be saint Artemide Zatti available to the Salesian Family and the research community to foster the dissemination of his life and work. Although this information has always been available, due to Pope Francis' recent approval of a miracle that will lead to his proclamation as a saint, the archival work has been enhanced.

These materials (texts, photographs, iconographies, postcards), which are a starting point for getting to know Artemide Zatti and letting him speak to one's life, are a collection of historical materials from his pastoral and professional work in Viedma, Río Negro Province, Patagonia, Argentina, preserved in the Bahía Blanca branch of the Salesian Archives.

This mini-website is designed so that historians, researchers, catechists, pastoral coordinators, teachers and others interested in the topic can have these materials at their fingertips, which will enable them to learn more about Artemide Zatti. But that's not all: over time, the Salesian Historical Archives team will continue to upload and add more materials as they go.

Building on many years of experience in preserving the historical heritage of the Congregation in its own local reality, (the Historical Archives of Northern Patagonia, based in Bahía Blanca, and the Salesian Central Archives, based at the Provincial House in Almagro, were founded in 1956), the current Salesian Historical Archive of Southern Argentina organizes and preserves the documents produced by the Province, to preserve and enhance, including through dissemination, those sources that record the Salesian past in Argentina, from the arrival of the first missionaries sent by Don Bosco in 1875, to the present day.

Every year hundreds of researchers and students pass through its two locations to retrace nearly 150 years of Salesian history in Argentina.

Those interested in linking to the Salesian Historical Archives website can do so from here.
