Japan - Renewal and concern for the poor at center of Provincial Chapter

08 June 2022

Tokyo, Japan - June 2022 - On Pentecost Sunday, celebrated last June 5, the Salesian Province of Japan (GIA) began its Provincial Chapter, focused mainly on the reorganization of the province, which is facing several challenges, including a decrease in the number of new confreres. The 24 chapter members present also reflected on the goal set six years ago by the Province to become a Province "for poor young people." Thus, to take more concrete steps in this direction, a Provincial General Plan was drafted, which has three objectives: to put the mission in favor of needy youth before any other task; to strengthen the religious community with a sufficient number of confreres; and to rethink the way all confreres are involved in the shared mission with the laity.
