Ukraine – Msgr. Krivitskiy, SDB: "All this pain, all this death, hurts me!"

01 July 2022

(ANS - Kyiv) - Among the most all-around active persons in supporting the needy in this time of war in Ukraine is certainly the Bishop of Kyiv-Žytomyr, Salesian Msgr. Vitaliy Krivitskiy, SDB. Today we are re-proposing a few of his statements made recently to RaiNews24.

All G7 leaders have condemned the attack on the Kremenchuk shopping center. What do you think the attacking army is aiming at?

They have no other desire than to take our land and annihilate ethnic Ukrainians. The whole world today is talking about Kremenchuk, but we have so many Kremenchuk every day. We have many tragedies in which not only military people die, but also many civilians. Those were people who had merely gone shopping. Now in all of us, there is only great sorrow.

When will Pope Francis' visit to Ukraine be possible?

It would be a marvelous initiative if he came to us. The whole civilized world now knows that Ukraine exists and is looking for different ways to stop the war. But the Pope's visit is obviously very complicated now, although we thank him for every single word and prayer he utters.

Does the Pope inquire directly from you about the war situation?

No, not directly from me, although we often talk with Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, the Papal Elector, who has already come to us several times to bring us support, relief, and the Pope's closeness.

Have you ever feared being a target of Russian forces?

Well, we see war crimes happening all over Ukraine... But it pains me more to see what families have to go through when I talk to parents who can no longer see their children or children who can no longer see their parents...

It hurts me to see that this aggressor does so many bad and terrible things, but he doesn't stop, and he goes on in a cynical way, making so many victims, not knowing how far he wants to go.

And all this pain that’s around, all this death, this hurts!

Would you like to send a message of peace to those who follow us?

I want to say thank you, above all, for all the interest in us, the help we are receiving from all over the world, for all the prayers, and also for welcoming the refugees.
