D.R. Congo - Drawings for Peace by children of "Maison Gahinja"
Goma, D.R. Congo - July 2022 - Last Wednesday, July 6, at the "Maison Gahinja," a branch of the "Don Bosco Ngangi" Youth Center, which serves as a first reception center for children newly arrived from the street, students from the "Centre de Récupération Scolaire" (CRS) participated in the "Draw for Peace" initiative, an awareness-raising activity organized by the Salesian NGO VIS (International Volunteering for Development), as part of the "War is Madness" campaign. The goal was to get these children to express themselves through drawing by drawing a peaceful, war-free area, for example, a family, a community, or friends living in peace. They were also asked to draw the beauty of peace, harmony, friendship, and conviviality. At the end of the session, which lasted two hours, Mr. Richard Mubua, from VIS, and Mr. Raphaël Bukoko from "Magazine Jambo Vijana Don Bosco," who accompanied the children in the activity, said they were very pleased with the strength of the communication of the CRS students, who in their simplicity produced very meaningful drawings that at the same time preached peace and denounced the misdeeds of war.
