(ANS - Barcelona) - Under the motto "Dare, trust, live!", a new edition of "Campobosco," a Salesian youth spirituality meeting that this year brings together 774 participants, aged 19 and older, belonging to the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) of the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of Spain and Portugal, began last Saturday, July 30.

Guided by the national Salesian Youth Ministry, the participants, mostly animators of Salesian Youth Centers, shall visit some of the most important Salesian places from July 30 to August 8: from those on Spanish soil to the fundamental ones in Piedmont.

The objectives of the meeting are: to build one's own Christian life by encountering Jesus through the experience of Christian life lived by Don Bosco, Mother Mazzarello, and the young people of the first oratory; to propose the figures of the young saints who flourished in Valdocco and Mornese as an inspiration for one's own project of evangelical life; and to live the sense of Church through youth protagonism and charismatic communion, in tune with the whole Christian community moving toward the synod.

The starting point was Barcelona - which Don Bosco visited in 1886 - with the inauguration of the meeting. The itinerary then continues with a long bus trip through France to Piedmont. The young people will stay at Colle Don Bosco, and visit The Becchi, the place where John Bosco was born in August 1815. From there, they will travel to Chieri, where the founder of the Salesian Congregation was formed as a priest, and to other towns that played an important role in his life. They will also pass through Mornese, the hometown of Maria Mazzarello, co-founder with Don Bosco of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), which celebrates the 150th anniversary of its foundation this year. Turin-Valdocco will be the final destination of the youth pilgrimage; they shall visit the first Salesian oratory and the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, as well as several sites in the city itself where Don Bosco carried out his mission among young people.

In addition to the visits, the meetings will also be highly significant. Participants will have the opportunity to dialogue with: the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime; the Mother General of the FMA, Mother Chiara Cazzuola; the General Counselors for Salesian Youth Ministry SDB and FMA, Fr. Miguel Ángel García Morcuende and Sr. Runita Galve; the Councilor for the Mediterranean Region, Fr. Juan Carlos Pérez Godoy; the SDB and FMA Provincials of Spain, Fr. Fernando García (SSM), Fr. Ángel Asurmendi (SMX), and Sister Charo Ten; and the Director of the Salesian National Center for Youth Ministry (CNSPJ) in Spain, Fr. José Miguel Núñez.

"Campobosco is always a gift of encounter. The experience touches those who participate in it deeply, fostering an inner journey to the roots of the Salesian charism that further strengthens who we are and what we do in each of our Houses," explains Fr. Xabier Camino, Delegate of Youth Ministry for the Spain-Saint James the Greater (SSM) Province. "After these pandemic years, the excitement of meeting in the 'Salesian Holy Land' is even greater. It will be an opportunity to feel like family, to celebrate our faith together, to share the joy of our Salesian youth spirituality, and to continue to commit our lives to a meaningful vocational project in the light of the Gospel."

For his part, Fr. Jordi Lleixà, Delegate of Youth Ministry for the Spain-Mary Help of Christians (SMX) Province, hopes that "this meeting will be for the participants, and for all the people who accompany them, an experience of encounter with the Risen Jesus that will spur us to become more involved in the exciting Salesian mission. Campobosco has always been a moment of pastoral revitalization for the Provinces and for each of the houses that participate. I hope that this will be the case this time as well."

As was the case with the previous edition in 2018, young participants will have a mobile app to access all the information about Campobosco, developed by Carlos Magán, animator of the Youth Center in Atocha, Madrid, and a telecommunications engineer. This way, participants do not need printed materials to follow the activities.

Also, and as in prior editions, Campobosco 2022 has an anthem, a song that serves as the soundtrack to the entire youth gathering. The song responds to the motto chosen for the event, "Dare, Trust, Live!" and was composed by singer Nico Montero and his music group.
