Italy – International Conference "François de Sales, mémoire et patrimoine (1622-2022)"

10 August 2022

(ANS - Turin) - The "Museo Casa Don Bosco" of Turin is pleased to participate as a key player in the International Convention "François de Sales, mémoire et patrimoine (1622-2022)," which will take place in Turin, Venaria Reale, Pinerolo and Annecy on September 22 and 23 and October 6.

Organized on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the death of Francis de Sales (1622-2022), the convention aims to reflect on the memory and cultural legacy of the bishop of Geneva in a multidisciplinary perspective.

The scholarly meeting not only aims to return to the complex personality of one of the episcopal models of the Counter-Reformation, who was also a spiritual director, writer, founder, and animator of religious orders but above all intends to verify how the multiple aspects of his multifaceted personality have sedimented over time, defining his figure and memory in a long journey that from the ancient Savoy States and France has involved the entire Catholic world.

On Sept. 22, at the Royal Palace of Venaria Reale, at 4:10 p.m., Dr. Stefania De Vita, director of the Casa Don Bosco House Museum, will present a talk entitled, "Don Bosco House Museum: Salesian memory between past and future."

The conference will be celebrated in two sessions, in Italy and France.

On Sept. 22, at the Royal Palace of Venaria Reale, in the Chapel of St. Hubert, two in-depth sessions will be held: one on the theme "The Cult of Francis de Sales," and the second in the afternoon, entitled: "Politics and Pastoral Care," in which Dr. de Vita will also speak. Afterward, all the speakers and guests of the conference will travel to Valdocco to visit the exhibition "Francis de Sales 400" at the "Museo Casa Don Bosco" in Turin, with the Director of the Museum doing the honors.

On Sept. 23, the work sessions will open at the Luigi Firpo Foundation headquarters (Piazza Carlo Alberto 3, Turin), where the participants shall address the topic of "Spiritual Inheritances" of St. Francis de Sales. The activities will be completed in the afternoon at the Diocesan Seminary in Pinerolo (Via Trieste 44), entitled "Francis de Sales 1622-2022: memory and cultural legacy in the Pinerolo area."

On the last day of the conference, Oct. 6, at the "Departmental Archives of Haute-Savoie (37/bis Avenue de la Plaine, 74000 Annecy), three study sessions will be held, respectively on the topics, "A Saint in a Territory"; "Francis de Sales and Literature"; and "Sacred Recharging."
