26 October 2022

(ANS - Jarabacoa) - On the weekend of 21-23 October, 2022, the "St. John Bosco" Province of the Antilles (ANT) held the second edition of the Salesian Congress of EduCommunication. Developed from the theme "Communication in Digital Educational Environments," the appointment served to focus on education to the appropriate use of media in the new digital culture, from a technical, ethical and charismatic point of view, according to Salesian values.

Held at the Salesian Promotion and Spirituality Center "Pinar Quemado" in Jarabacoa, the event was attended by more than 70 people, including educators, Salesians, communicators and young people from all regions of the country, interested in acquiring new knowledge and skills in the area of educational communication in relation to new information technologies.

Fr. Jorge Santiago, a Salesian with a Master's degree in Spirituality from the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, California, spoke on the first day. His talk "The Salesian Sacrament of Presence in Digital Educational Environments" aroused great interest among the participants.

On the second day, the following talks were given: "How to Delve into Digital Educational Environments," by Manuel Montero, a lecturer with a Master's degree in University Management and Teaching; and "Educating and Evangelizing in Digital Environments," by Sister Ana Julia Suriel, a religious and school psychologist, Executive Director of the National Union of Catholic Schools.

Participants also took part in a panel discussion during which they had the opportunity to ask questions of the speakers on the topics covered during the day, and received three training sessions useful for continuing to contribute to their professional growth. These sessions were "Cyber-security in digital educational environments," by engineer Philippe Joaquín Madé Lockward and Dr. Héctor José Mojica Ortiz; "E-learning as an educational tool" by engineer Luis Fortuna; and "Public relations and marketing in the new digital culture," given by journalist Ariel Manzanillo.

Finally, "Communication in Digital Educational Environments" was also offered by Cristian Corcino, president and co-founder of Intellisys D Corp, with more than 15 years of experience in software development.

To close the conference, participants received a live message of greeting and encouragement from Africa: from Fr. Gildasio Mendes, General Councilor for Social Communication, there for the regional meeting of Provincial Delegates of Formation and Social Communication.
