Europe - School principals/boards' demands: active methodologies and emotional well-being of members of our educational and pastoral communities

25 November 2022

(ANS) -In October and November, a working group of the Salesians of Europe, promoted by the Youth Ministry Sector, met several times and in different sessions to prepare the analysis of the "Educobarometer"; the results or information will then be given to the provincial coordinators of schools.

Alongside Fr. Miguel Ángel García Morcuende, General Councilor for Salesian Youth Ministry, the work group included: Antonio Rodríguez, Coordinator on behalf of the Salesians of Don Bosco of the Commission of Salesian Schools of Europe; Rafael Ruíz and Carles Rubio, members of the Technical Team of the School Commission of the "Spain-Mary Help of Christians" Province.

The objective of the "Educobarometer" was to learn the opinion of the schools' leadership teams firsthand. In this analysis, members of the school leadership teams expressed their realities, voiced their concerns and requests for training, presented the effects of the pandemic, their goals, what they devote most of their time to, and the changes needed to continue fostering the Salesian identity of the educational centers. The questionnaire was based on 402 responses from school board members of schools and vocational training centers in Europe. The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians also sent the same questionnaire to their many educational institutions in Europe.

In the Mediterranean Europe region, there are 176 schools and 120 Vocational Training Centers (VTCs); while in Central and Northern Europe, there are 164 schools and 35 VTCs. The draft of the presentation in different languages is currently being prepared, and it is expected that some of the work guidelines suggested by the directors will cover both training in active methodologies and more specific formation to help the emotional well-being of all members of educational and pastoral communities.

This study will serve to maintain the fidelity of the institutes to the Salesian mission, namely: to be meaningful in Europe and to contribute to the transformation of education and societies.
