RMG – New Superior of Brazil-Porto Alegre Province appointed: Fr. Ademir Ricardo Cwendrych

(ANS - Rome) - As part of the General Council’s work, on Wednesday, December 7, the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, appointed Fr. Ademir Ricardo Cwendrych as the new Provincial of the "St. Pius X" Province of Brazil-Porto Alegre (BPA).

Fr. Ademir is 41 years old and was born in the interior of the State of Paraná, in Guarapuava, where he was part of the Salesian Youth Movement; in 2000, at the age of 19, he decided to begin his vocational journey. 

He did his novitiate at the "Sao Carlos" house in the Province of Brazil-São Paulo, taking his first vows on January 25, 2003. He then did his post-novitiate in Viamão, a city near Porto Alegre, and his internship in Curitiba, where he also completed his theological studies. He made his perpetual profession on October 19, 2008, in Porto Alegre, and was ordained a priest in Guarapuava, his hometown, on December 19, 2010.  

From 2011 to 2013 he was in charge of the Salesian Youth Movement and Economer of the Novitiate in Curitiba at the same time. From 2014 to 2016 he studied Youth Ministry at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) in Rome. Since 2017, he has been the Institutional Director of the Salesian College and the Don Bosco Faculty in Porto Alegre. In 2020 he also assumed the positions of Provincial Vicar and Delegate for Formation (2020-2022). 

Fr. Cwendrych shall replace Provincial Fr. Gilson Marcos Da Silva, taking on the post of 12th Superior of the Province of BPA on Feb. 5, 2023, in the city of Itajaí.
