Japan - 1926 - Immortalized in this old photograph, dating back to 1926, are the first Salesians who arrived on Japanese soil. Under the leadership of Fr. Vincenzo Cimatti, the first missionaries landed in the port of Moji. Upon arriving in Japan, Fr. Cimatti wrote a letter to Fr. Filippo Rinaldi, telling him of his first impressions and describing the surrounding landscape of snow-covered white mountains, islands, and trees. "Thank you Lord," he wrote, "Long live Japan."
