India - “GROW BOSCO” campaign initiative by the Rector Major in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, India – March 2023 - Yesterday, 2nd March, “GROW BOSCO”, a tree plantation campaign of Salesian Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, India was initiated by Fr. Ángel Fernandez Artime, the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco.  The Rector Major and the General Councillors, along with the children who accompanied them, went on a plantation spree in the premises of Provincial House in Hyderabad. The significance of this campaign, titled “GROW BOSCO”, is rooted in the word Bosco, which in Italian means the woods. The campaign GROW BOSCO means grow forest. The objective of the campaign is to increase the green cover by planting trees with the children, youth, women’s groups, and communities, motivating them to create a green future for themselves. Thanks to the guidance of Fr. Noel Maddichetty, who in collaboration with Bosco Seva Kendra, the Development Office of Salesian Province of Hyderabad is spearheading this “Grow Bosco” campaign programme. It will create awareness and promote the cause of the “Laudato Si”, strongly exhorted and sustained by Pope Francis.  In the initial phase, the campaign seeks to plant 10,000 trees. “GROW BOSCO” campaign envisages to plant 100,000 trees totally in the coming years.  The “GROW BOSCO campaign along with women’s groups in the Province of Hyderabad, seeks to bring economic sustainability to their families by generating income with fruit-bearing trees. With an ambitious target of 100,000 trees, this project hopes to create a sustainable future, reduce the carbon footprint and create a healthy environment.
