Brazil – National meeting of Salesian Communication Committee

09 March 2023

(ANS - Brasilia) - A national meeting of the Salesian Communication Committee took place at the headquarters of the Salesian Network of Brazil (RSB) in Brasilia from 1 to 3 March. Aimed at reinforcing integration, networking, and alignment with the actions envisioned in the Annual Integrated Work Plan, the meeting was led by the National Coordinator for Salesian Communication, Sister Maike Loes, together with the central office team: the Executive Coordinator, Maria Dantas; the Communication Analysts, Janaína Lima and Thiago Silva; and the graphic designer, Pedro Freitas. Ana Maria Gomes Cordeiro represented the Salesian Youth Ministry (SYM), and the Social Communication (SC) Delegates from each Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) of Brazil, were also present.

The first day of the gathering focused on Encouraging Group Unity, and was directed by the Executive Directors of the Salesian Network of Brazil, Sister Silvia Aparecida da Silva and Father Nivaldo Luiz Pessinatti, who were in attendance for the duration of the event.

On the second day, after guided prayer through a collective reading of Pope Francis' Message for the 57th World Communications Day, there was remote participation by the National Coordinators of the RSB Commissions for Schools and Salesian Social Action, Sister Lucia Jacinta Finassi and Carolina Neves de Oliveira. "This dream and this journey that we have tried to make together renders us somehow close. I hope that together we can achieve this synergy between the Social Action, Schools and Communication Commissions, knowing that our mission is one; as such, our paths shall always and daily cross," noted the latter.

The meeting then turned to an understanding of the different provincial realities with presentations by each SC Delegate. The day was rounded off by a talk with the National Coordinators of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM), Sister Nádia Caetano and Fr. José Ricardo, followed by the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. João Carlos Ribeiro Rodrigues.

They dedicated the third and final day to the actions foreseen in the Annual Work Plan for the year 2023, highlighting, in particular, the actions carried out by the Communications Committee. The day also included the presentation of the Campaign's proposals for Schools and Social Works, opening a session to listen to the needs expressed locally by the presences of each province and, from there, providing an opportunity for the joint construction of opportunities that can answer to the requests presented. As a special participation, the day saw a quick visit from Wagner Ferreira, the new President of the Canção Nova Community (CN), the 25th group of the Salesian Family, who was elected to that position just last Feb. 28.

Participants at the meeting returned to their works with the mission, at the local level, also, to increase awareness of working as a network to give more and more concrete support, in the Salesian style, to the needs of young people, especially those in socially vulnerable situations.
