Turkey - Rector Major meets Patriarch Bartholomew l

(ANS - Istanbul) - It was a historic moment, yesterday’s meeting of the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime with the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew l, which was an intense moment of sharing and concern about the Church and the world today.  

In the meeting that took place last evening, both leaders expressed their heartfelt closeness to Pope Francis and all his initiatives. Patriarch Bartholomew l appreciated the services of the Salesian Congregation to the migrants in various parts of the world and stressed the importance of preserving and nurturing this spirit of ecumenism between Ecumenical Orthodoxy and the Catholic Church.  He especially thanked the Rector Major and the Salesian Congregation for the service of the Salesians in Istanbul for 120 years. The Patriarch then shared his great sorrow with the Rector Major for the various conflicts afflicting the world, especially the tragedy of the war in Ukraine. Bartholomew l showed great concern for the ‘house of God’ and spoke on pertinent themes of ecology. The Rector Major expressed his gratitude for the strong support the Salesians have received in the past and still receive today in their ministry in Turkey and assured him of their continued collaboration. The meeting concluded with a Marian prayer.  Fr Ángel expressed great satisfaction after the meeting and said that it was a true moment of grace, goodwill and fraternity.
