Campinápolis, Brazil-April 2023 - In two ceremonies presided over by the Bishop of Primavera do Leste-Paranatinga, Bishop Derek John Christopher Byrne, SPS, youth and adults from the Xavante villages served by St. Dominic Savio Personal Parish received the sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation in the villages of the municipality of Campinápolis (MT). The first celebration was held on Saturday, April 15, in the village of Tseredzatse, where about 20 young people were baptized, confirmed and received First Communion. They came from different villages in the region, such as the village of Tseredzatse itself and from the villages of Xavante, São Paulo and São Salvador. The second celebration was held on Sunday, April 16, in the village of São Felipe, where about 100 people received Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. Salesian missionaries were represented by the pastor, Fr. Aquilino Tseré ub'õ Tsirui'á, and Deacon José Alves de Oliveira. For the Salesian deacon, the celebrations were an event that deeply marked the life of the parish and also the villages. "It is good to see this youth, these people, telling the missionaries that they need Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. This is the fruit of the work of the missionaries who have been traveling these lands for years, especially Fr. Bartholomew Giaccaria, and the work of the current missionaries, who are there in this area, together with the Xavante people," he said.
