VATICAN - "Nulla osta" for the cause of Sister Antonieta Böhm, FMA

25 October 2016

(ANS - Vatican City) - On 19 October, the Protocol Office of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints sent Fr Pierluigi Cameroni SDB, Postulator General for the Causes of Saints of the Salesian Family, a copy of the "Nulla Osta" from the Holy See for the start of the diocesan inquiry for the cause of beatification of the Servant of God, Sister Antonieta Böhm, Daughter of Mary Help of Christians.

Antonieta Böhm was born on September 1907 in Bottrop, Germany. The FMA arrived in Germany in 1922. Antonieta met them in Essen and was fascinated by their serene and apostolic lifestyle. She attended the novitiate in Nizza Monferrato, Italy, and in 1928 she made her first profession. After her perpetual profession in Turin on 5 August 1934 she began her missionary life in Argentina (1934-1965), Peru (1965 to 1969) and Mexico (1969-2008). She was a music teacher, a nurse, Vicar, Superior and Provincial. Everywhere she proved herself a strong woman, always ready to listen and always trusting in the help of God and of Mary Help of Christians.

She consolidated existing works and opened new ones. The last 30 years of her life (from 1979) were spent in the "Villa Spem" community in Coacalco, Mexico, as Vicar and Superior. They were years of fruitful apostolate as a spiritual guide and of social commitment on behalf of the poor. In 1985 she started the ''Obra sabatina" which consisted in the distribution of food to the most needy. Until 2000 she followed the whole organization personally, then accepted gracefully her failing health and allowed herself to be cared for. She was a source of edification for the novices and all who came to the house. She died on 27 April 2008 at 100 years of age. She had spent 80 years as a professed religious and 74 as a missionary. In 2013 the Suplex Libellus was introduced in the Diocese of Cuautitlan (Mexico) to start the process on the life and virtues of the Servant of God.

The testimony she leaves is one of ardent love for Jesus, unlimited trust in Mary Help of Christians, a welcoming kindness and generosity and serene availability for the mission for the spread of the Kingdom of God in different cultures, in families and in people's hearts.
